Filling:
- 6 large Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored, and Thickly Sliced
- 1 C fresh or frozen cranberries
- 2 t finely grated orange zest
- 1 C sugar
- 3 T all-purpose flour
- 1/8 t salt
- 1 large egg, beaten with 1 T milk
Directions
Preheat the oven to 400F.
In a large bowl, toss together the apples, cranberries, orange zest, sugar, flour and salt; transfer to the pie shell. Brush the edges of the pie shell with the egg wash and cover with the second dough round, lightly pressing the edges together. Trim any over hanging dough to 1-inch; fold the dough under and crimp to seal. Brush the top crust with the egg wash, avoiding the decorative rim, as it tends to brown to quickly. Make cuts in the top crust for venting. Set the pie on the middle shelf of the oven and place a baking sheet on the lower shelf to catch any drips. Bake the pie about 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until the crust is light golden and the juices bubble.
